Basic Hot Sauce!

Ok, So by now you’ve realized we love all things hot! Your actually probably thinking we’re a little obsessed….and you would be correct! ha. But it’s all for good reason. Hot sauce, if it’s a good one, can add both flavor and heat to whatever your eating. Most store bought ones taste like someone dropped a salt brick into a pot of vinegar, and the fancy independent ones are just designed to get you to buy them or create permanent burn marks on your underwear! So in keeping it simple, and with flavor in mind, here is a basic method of making hot sauce. Now there are a million different kinds of peppers that you can use with varying degrees of heat, but the general rule we go by is that the flavor of the peppers is #1!! So here is a list of some of our favorites : red Savina ( hotter than a habanero, but fruity), Jamaican hot chocolate ( habanero hot and very fruity/smokey), Jalapeno ( hot and really good flavor), Habanero ( very hot and fruity). You can also experiment by adding fruit or any thing else you think would taste good. Just pick whatever peppers you like and start creating your own brew!!! And if you want to send us a bottle….we promise we won’t be mad :).

  • 5-10 peppers of your choice, stems removed
  • 1 1/2 cups  white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup  shredded carrots
  • 1  tsp salt or more to taste
  • 2 whole cloves of garlic
  • a little honey

Throw everything in a pot on med and let it cook for at least 10 minutes. The idea is to let the flavors meld together and to reduce the liquid just a little. Once you think it’s done, throw it in a blender and process it until its somewhat smooth. Store in a container in your fridge. If the sauce smells weird don’t worry, once it cools it will go away and the flavor will be there! Enjoy!
