Americana #2: Kickass Pepper Relish

Welcome to Americana! This is our ongoing series where we will be sharing recipes that will help make your summer cookouts that much more enjoyable and KickAss! This go around we are focusing on more of a condiment than an actual meal, but we’re hoping that it will help make those burgers and hotdogs your grilling up taste that much better! Our focus of Americana #2 is a pepper relish! Using both hot and sweet peppers, vinegar, and a little bit of sugar this relish is sure to add awesome flavor to anything. And while we use Red Savinas ( because we’re kind of crazy like that), feel free to use any kind of pepper you like depending on your taste for the heat. This recipe comes courtesy of my friend k-Bizzy ( with a little modification). Another crazy heat lover who just so happened to brew some pepper beer not long ago……..yum! So kickback and enjoy the summer weather, and remember to top off that burger with some KickAss Relish!

  • 8 bell peppers
  • 10 habaneros ( or peppers of your choice)
  • 1 TBS of salt
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic
  • fresh cracked black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups of vinegar

Chop all of the peppers and garlic up with a food processor ( or by hand) to a very fine consistency. Place in a pot and add the salt, stirring to combine. Let this mixture sit for 3-4 hours while you go lay by the pool. Next, combine the rest of the ingredients into the pot and cook, stirring for 30-45 minutes until it’s all thickened up and nice like. If you use really hot peppers you may want to open a window or something, as the fumes may be a little much ha!. Once you’ve cooked this awesome concoction to your desired thickness, just take it off the heat and let it cool. Once cooled you can separate it into jars, or just do whatever you like…….we just can’t guarantee it will stay around very long!
